“那是 1974 年，战争已经持续了很多年……”影片由一位经历过柬埔寨红色高棉政权的华人老人的记忆开始。高度控制的媒体在 1975 至 1979 年间留下的图像极其稀少，而这一时期有数百万人死亡，其中约二十万人具有华人血统。
影片是对这段失落历史的集体想象，由宣传影像、红色高棉倒台后在世界范围内传播的灾难图像，以及 3D 重建共同构成。通过一种自传式的声音，作品把温柔的个人史展开为一个被想象出来的近过去的虚拟现实，也显示实验性数字图像如何把记忆与历史编织在一起。
创作线索
官方信息表把影片的起点写成“我和中国历史上一个被遗忘的群体的相遇”，也就是在法国遇到的柬埔寨华人记忆。作品的图像并不是从完整证据出发，而是在两种极端的叙述之间展开：红色高棉时期的宣传影像，以及政权倒台后在世界范围内流通的灾难影像。由游戏引擎生成的实时三维模拟，不是在补足这些缺失，也不是通过 3D 与档案的混合来评判历史；它更像一个空间，在那里能够寻求重现我们的过去，让记忆以一种仍然生产当下的主观图像继续出现。
